I'm assuming at some point it will be mandatory for all cars to be hybrids.
What are your thoughts on this? Is this something that the US Government should mandate, or should it be market driven?
Should the consumer be forced to buy hybrid, or should it be their choice?
Personally I believe that it should be their choice. My wife and I currently have a 2001 VW Beetle diesel, which gets better mileage at 45 MPG than many hybrids.

( 3 / 106 )If you are reading this blog, then you must have some interest in a hybrid vehicle or you already own one. The question that I ask is why do you own a hybrid, or why are you looking at purchasing one?
The two common answers that I have heard are:
1. To save money on fuel. I won't spend as much at the pump if I am driving a hybrid.
2. To be more environmentally friendly.
So I ask you the question, not to judge why you are looking at or driving a hybrid, but just out of curiosity.
Why do you or would you drive a hybrid?

( 3 / 127 )The car rental companies are now offering hybrid cars, yes hybrid rental cars.
In order to find out more, I visited the Avis website and found out that yes, you can get the Totota Prius, or the Nissan Altima Hybrid, although you will end up paying about twice as much as you would for a standard or full size car, and almost 3 times as much as a subcompact car.
If you could were planning to rent a car, and a full size car in Los Angeles was $50 per day, and it was $100 per day to rent a hybrid, would it be worth the extra $50 per day? From the simple financial aspect, you would have to be doing a lot of driving to save enough gas to make up for the $50 difference in the rental price.
Until hybrid rental cars are priced the same or close to other cars of the same size, I don't think that many people will pay the excessive fees to rent them.
Would you pay twice as much to rent a hybrid over a standard car?

( 3 / 45 )With oil hitting $100 per barrel, will that impact your decision to buy a hybrid car?
Here is what some people are saying about the current gas prices, and how it has impacted them.
Prices of gas are getting so high that I've resorted to walking or other means of transport lately for short distances. Also have to be more selective when it comes to choosing which petrol station to top up at.
I now walk to purchase groceries at the mom and pop store instead of driving to the larger grocery store. The grocery prices are slightly higher, but with the high price of gas (plus the usual cost car wear and tear), I figure I come out ahead.
Due to the increase of gas prices, my family and I have had to cut some of our activities. We no longer have the extra funds to go out every weekend, it's now every other weekend.
We boycott the local gas stations that regularly drives the price of gas up higher than the state average;they have a monopoly on the number of gas stations here and the other gas stations follow suit. Since the boycott, they have been the first to lower prices when the market allows and the last to raise their prices, so we still pay a lot, but at least it is not more than what the rest of the state pays.
Simply, the rising cost of gas has caused me to quit driving anywhere that I cannot reach on foot. This includes places that require a 20-30 minute walk. The only exception to this is in exceptionally bad weather, such as pouring rain.
Since the price of gas has risen so much I haven't really gone out anywhere anymore. I used to go to movies, restaurants, plays, concerts etc. but I'll have to do without now.
If you owned a hybrid car, would the price of gas impact you?

( 3 / 92 )Today it is 27 degrees outside, and snowing. Very unusual for Washington State.
The cold weather made me think about hybrid vehicles. I know that people who are using Biodiesel need to switch away from the B99 product this time of year.
What I am looking for are stories, or details on how your hybrid vehicle has performed differently in the cold, ice, or snow. For instance, does anyone have ski rack on top of they hybrid car, and do you drive it in the mountains to go skiing?
Just click the comment link below, and tell me your cold weather hybrid story. Thanks!
